When homeowners think about a roofing contractor, they often look for reliability, craftsmanship, and fair pricing. R. Short Roofing, a family-owned company based in Delaware since 2013, delivers on all those fronts—but it does something more: it genuinely cares about the community it serves. From standard roof replacements to its remarkable Free Roof Giveaway initiative, this company has proven that doing good work and doing good go hand in hand.
R. Short Roofing is not just about tearing off old shingles and nailing down new ones. The company takes pride in its full-service approach: stripping down to the deck, making necessary repairs, and installing a complete roofing system built to last. Their website highlights a clean, respectful job site and a commitment to leak-free results. For anyone in Delaware and the surrounding region seeking a dependable contractor, this team deserves a close look.

What Stands Out
Community-Focused Giveaway Program
R. Short Roofing launched a Free Roof Giveaway that has already helped two families in need. The second recipient, Christine Squires of Seaford, was living alone on Social Security and managing a physical disability. Her roof was too deteriorated to support a solar installation that would cut her electric bill by nearly 60 percent. R. Short Roofing stepped up to replace her roof at no cost, enabling that life-changing solar project to move forward.
Quality Workmanship and Materials
The company doesn’t cut corners. They use quality shingles, ensure proper ventilation, and pay attention to every detail from ridge to eave. Their process includes a full tear-off, which allows them to inspect the decking and make necessary repairs before installing the new system. This thoroughness reduces the risk of future leaks and extends the roof’s lifespan.
Clean and Respectful Job Sites
One often-overlooked aspect of roofing is the mess. R. Short Roofing prides itself on maintaining a clean job site, from staging materials to daily cleanup. This respect for the homeowner’s property makes the entire process less stressful and shows a level of professionalism that many contractors overlook.
Transparent Communication and Free Inspections
The company offers free, no-pressure roof inspections for homeowners who are unsure about their roof’s condition. They also provide a clear walkthrough of what happens on install day, so customers know exactly what to expect. This transparency builds trust and helps homeowners make informed decisions.
Who It’s For
R. Short Roofing is ideal for homeowners and business owners in Delaware and nearby areas who want a contractor that cares as much about the people as the project. It is especially well-suited for those who value local, family-run businesses and appreciate a company that gives back to the community. Whether someone needs a minor repair or a full roof replacement, R. Short Roofing offers a dependable option.
The company also appeals to homeowners considering solar energy, as they are willing to work alongside solar installation plans. In Christine’s case, replacing the roof was a prerequisite for solar panels—and R. Short Roofing made that possible. For anyone on a fixed income or facing financial challenges, their giveaway program demonstrates a genuine willingness to help when it matters most.
What Makes It Worth Considering
R. Short Roofing’s dedication to quality is clear, but the company’s compassion sets it apart in a crowded industry. By funding a second free roof giveaway only weeks after the first, they showed that their commitment to community isn’t a one-off marketing stunt. It’s part of their identity. The company’s co-owners, Ralph and Nick, personally shared how Christine’s story moved them to act—proof that this team sees every roof as more than just a job.
Additionally, the company’s focus on durability and proper installation means homeowners can expect a roof that holds up against Delaware’s coastal storms, heavy rain, and salt air. Their blog offers tips on spotting early signs of roof trouble, empowering homeowners to catch small issues before they become big expenses. All of this adds up to a service that delivers peace of mind as much as a new roof.
Verdict
For anyone in Delaware or the surrounding region seeking a roofing contractor, R. Short Roofing is an excellent choice. The company blends professional workmanship with a heartfelt community mission, offering free inspections, high-quality installations, and even no-cost roofs for families in need. Their transparency, local roots, and willingness to go the extra mile make them a standout in home improvement.
